Women's Ministry

First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW)

The First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW) participate in the life of the church through many different avenues. We have several committees: Funeral Lunch & Kitchen Committee, Bemidji Food Shelf Committee, Soup Kitchen Committee, and we head up the Serving Groups of First Lutheran. We are part of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Purpose Statement of the Women of the ELCA

As a community of women

created in the image of God,
called to discipleship in Jesus Christ,

and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

We commit ourselves to

grow in faith,

affirm our gift

support one another in our callings,

engage in ministry and action, and
promote healing and wholeness.

In the church, the society, and the world.

There are many opportunities for service within the FLCW:

Executive Board: The Executive Board meets the first Thursday of each month at 9:00am in the Fellowship Hall. It is comprised of elected officers and circle chairpersons.

Members: All women of First Lutheran Church are considered members of First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW) and are most welcome.

Circles: Circles are groups of women who meet the first Wednesday of each month for Bible Study and fellowship. Times and places are listed in the church bulletin prior to each monthly event. Circles meet as a combined group during the months of January, February, March, June, July, and August. These 'Combined Circle' meetings typically meet at the church in the Fellowship Hall. Please check our church calendar for the most up-to-date information.

Serving Groups: Serving groups consist of all adult members of First Lutheran Church and are organized by months. They provide food and/or monetary donations for church events as well as ushering, greeting, reading and other Sunday duties.

Quilting: All women of FLC are invited to meet on Wednesday mornings 9:00am-12:00pm from September through May to assemble, tie, and sew quilts for Lutheran World Relief (LWR) and needy people in the Bemidji Area. We have two packing days each year at which time the quilts and other parish projects are boxed and shipped for LWR.

Knitting: All women of FLC are invited to meet on Thursday afternoons at 1:00pm from September through May to knit prayer shawls and items for LWR such as sweaters and caps.

Finding meaningful relationships as an adult female can be challenging to do. Soul Sisters, a ministry of First Lutheran Church, is hoping to be a place where women can not only grow in relationship with each other but can also be known for women supporting women. We hope that you will join in these experiences and invite other women to be a part of this growing community. Soul Sisters is a place where laughter happens often, love is shared in abundance, and relationships are nurtured. Join us and see for yourself how uplifting these experiences can be in your life.
